Step into the French Riviera
at The May Fair Hotel
This October, The May Fair Hotel joins Art of London's Step into the French Riviera campaign, a city-wide celebration timed to coincide with the Royal Academy of Arts' forthcoming exhibition, Painting the French Riviera.
Outside the hotel on Stratton Street, an immersive 3D installation inspired by André Derain's Vue de Collioure (1905) invites passers-by to step inside the world of the French Riviera. Derain was among the pioneering Fauvist painters who captured the intense light and colour of the Côte d'Azur in the early 20th century. His work features alongside that of Picasso, Matisse, Cézanne and Renoir in the Royal Academy exhibition.

Painting the French Riviera opens at the Royal Academy of Arts, Burlington House, Piccadilly in October 2026. The exhibition explores the profound influence of the Côte d'Azur on some of the greatest painters of the 19th and 20th centuries, among them Picasso, Matisse, Cézanne, Renoir and André Derain, whose work inspired the immersive installation outside The May Fair Hotel on Stratton Street. The Royal Academy is a short walk from the hotel, via Berkeley Square and Piccadilly.
